Welcome Letter 2009
Dear Stonegate Stingrays,
On behalf of the coaching staff I would like to formally welcome you to the 2009 swim season for the Stonegate Stingrays! After an amazing 3rd place finish last year at the Rocky Mountain Swim League Championship, I see so much potential in the team for this coming season. We have many returning families and I’m so pleased that you come back summer after summer and swim with us! It is always been important to me to build relationships with the families in our neighborhood and I could not ask for better people to be a part of this team! For all of the new families, I am thrilled that you have decided to join us this year. Every year there are always a new set of families that help enhance this team in many ways. I look forward to getting to know everyone and having a great time at the pool.
I suppose I should tell you a little about myself and I will also introduce my assistant coaches. My name is Taylor Kannawin and I will be the head coach for the 2009 season. This is my sixth year coaching for the Stingrays and it is my second year as
head coach. I have a very long history with this team and I credit Stonegate for being the basis by which I built my swimming career. My family moved to Stonegate in 1991 and I started swimming for the Stingrays when I was six and have continued swimming for the last 15 years. I graduated from Regis Jesuit High School in 2006 were I swam varsity for four years. I have also been swimming for the Colorado STARS for 13 years. I am about to finish my junior year at College of Saint Benedict in Saint Joseph, Minnesota, where I am majoring in psychology. I have continued to swim competitively in college. As you can tell, swimming has been a large part of my life and apparently I am addicted to chlorine! I would say that one of the biggest highlights for me each year is getting to coach during the summer. I still have many vivid memories of this team when I was
younger, and I know that my coaches made a huge impact in my life. In a way, I hope to have the opportunity to share my passion of swimming with all of you in hopes of sparking a new interest in this sport. I love this team and I can guarantee that your little swimmers are going to make memories this summer that they will carry with them for the rest of their life!
We have several new coaches this year that I would like to take some time to introduce. Cait Pittaway is a dear friend of mine who I grew up with in Stonegate and in the swimming pool. She swam for Stonegate Stingrays from age 8 to age 12 then moved to Cherry Creek Vista and swam there from age 13 to 17. She swam varsity for 4 years; 2 at Cherry Creek High School and 2 at Regis Jesuit. Katherine McGowan will be a sophomore at the University of Wyoming. She graduated from Chaparral High School, and has been swimming competitively since she was 8. Sean McNicol will be a senior at Chaparral High School, and has been swimming for Stonegate for many years. He also spent several years swimming for STARS. Finally, we have Sam Kannawin who will be a junior at Regis Jesuit High School. She spent her last summer as a junior coach and is very excited to be working as a full time coach. She has also been a Stingray since she was 5. She swims for STARS and is on the varsity team at Regis.
We all are look forward to getting to coach your swimmers! Feel free to contact us if you ever have questions. See you at the pool!
Sincerely,
Taylor Kannawin
